The first part of starting an Internet business is deciding what domain name is going to be used to represent your business.
The first thing you have to do is create a concept for your company. I would recommend that you find something that you are "really" interested in and think about how you can make money from your interest. Nobody likes to do a job that they have no interest in. Formulate your business concept around you and find the right domain name to go with your interest.
Here are some questions you should ask yourself:
- Do you have a hobby that could become your business?
- If you put some effort into your hobby could it grow into a successful business?
- Do you have education in an area that you could use to market your products?
- Do you have any unique experiences that would make a good "About Us" story on-line?
- Is there another business you have seen on-line that appeals to you? Why?
Once you have narrowed down your business concept you need to choose a domain name. Here are two websites that I use to help me identify domain names that are still available:
-
BustaName.com - This is a domain tool that helps you choose a domain name. It is very easy to use and provides you alternaitve domain names to use if the ones you choose are taken. You simply type in a word and it will provide you with a listing of available domains. You can add additional words and it will combine them in a fashion that will display suggestions or other variations of the domain names that are available.
-
DomainsBot.com - This is another domain name sugegestion tool that you might try that I use.
In choosing a domain name I would recommend buying one that has your product name or service description in the domain name. I have been extremely successful selling products using the .NET extension when the product name is in the domain. |
