A domain name is the web address that people will use to find your business.  Most of the real good domain names that end in .COM have been taken but I have been very successful buying .NET domain names that have really paid off for me.  This website has a .NET domain name and it tells what we offer here "How to Guides."  I have learned that if you have a domain name that has a product name in the title you usually get higher rankings by the search engines.  I have several ecommerce websites and two of them use the exact product name in the title and I have continuously ranked #1 in the search results for the last two years for that product line. 

Ideally you would find a domain name that is the same as your company name or product name.  You can buy additional domain names and have them "point" at your website.  If someone types in any of the domain name addresses they would go to your website.
